For how long after death do individual cells live?

A person dies. For how long after death do individual cells ( anywhere in the body. Hand foot etc) live? After brain function ceases and the heart stops circulating blood, do individual cells continue processes such as the production of ATP until they have exhausted all necessary resources? or do cells cease all processes and begin deterioration right away?
